يسرُّ جامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك أن تعلن عن انتخاب ا للجامعة.
بتاريخ 21 أيّار 2025، عيّنَ الرئيس العامّ للرهبانيّة اللُّبنانية المارونيّة والرئيس الأعلى للجامعة، الأب العامّ هادي محفوظ، الأب جوزف مكرزل رئيسًا لجامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك، وذلك بعد انتخابه من قبل مجلس الرئاسة العامّة وموافقة مجلس أمناء الجامعة.
وفي تمام الساعة الحادية عشرة من قبل ظهر يوم الإثنين الواقع فيه 7 تمّوز 2025، تسلّم الأب البروفسور جوزف مكرزل مهامّه رسميًّا كرئيسٍ للجامعة من سلفه الأب الدكتور طلال هاشم. وقد سبق عمليّة التسليم والتسلّم مرحلة انتقاليّة هدفت إلى تأمين انتقال فعّال للمسؤوليّات، وضمان استمراريّة العمل المؤسساتيّ، وذلك وفقًا للنظام المُعتمد في الجامعات التي تتّبع النموذج الأميركيّ الأكاديميّ في الحوكمة.
الأب جوزف مكرزل هو خرّيج جامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك (1990-1995)، حيث حاز إجازة في اللاهوت وماجستير في الفلسفة وماجستير في التاريخ. وتابع مسيرته الأكاديميّة في جامعة السوربون – باريس الرابعة، حيث نال شهادة الدكتوراه في التاريخ. وهو أستاذ متفرّغ في قسم التاريخ في كلّيّة الآداب والعلوم، وأستاذ محاضر في كلّيّة اللاهوت الحَبريّة ومعهد الفنّ المقدّس، كما أنّه عضو في مجلس الجامعة منذ عام 2001. شغل الأب جوزف مكرزل عدّة مناصب إداريّة في جامعة الروح القدس – الكسليك، من بينها قيادة مشاريع تطوير مكتبة الجامعة، ومتحف الجامعة الأثريّ، ومركز فينيكس للدراسات اللبنانيّة. وقد ساهم من خلال تولّيه هذه المسؤوليّات في ترسيخ الرابط الحيويّ بين الحفاظ على التراث اللبنانيّ وتعزيز الابتكار الأكاديميّ.
في رصيد الأب جوزف مكرزل العديد من المؤلّفات، من كتبٍ ومقالاتٍ محكّمة تناولت قضايا متعدّدة، منها تاريخ لبنان وتنوّعه الدينيّ والثقافيّ، وتاريخ الشرق الأوسط، والدراسات السريانيّة، والتراث المسيحيّ-الإسلاميّ، وتراث المخطوطات. كما أنّه عضو في المركز الوطنيّ الفرنسيّ للبحث العلميّ، وفي العديد من الجمعيّات الأكاديميّة العالميّة.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أنّ حفلًا رسميًّا سيُنظّم في مستهلّ السنة الأكاديميّة الجديدة لتقبّل التهاني. وبهذه المناسبة، يتوجّه الرئيس الأب جوزف مكرزل ومجلس الجامعة الجديد بالشكر إلى الرهبانيّة اللبنانية المارونيّة، ممثّلةً بشخص الأب العامّ، وإلى مجلس المدبّرين، ومجلس أمناء الجامعة، وأفراد الأسرة الجامعيّة كافّةً، فضلًا عن خرّيجي الجامعة وشركائها وأصدقائها. كما يتمنّى لسلفه دوام النجاح في مهامّه الجديدة. وإذ تستلهم الجامعة من شعارها “فمتى جاء هو، أي روح الحقّ، أرشدَكُم إلى الحقّ كلّه”، تواصل المسيرة، لما فيه خير طلّابنا، واستمراريّة رسالتها، وازدهار وطننا.
Election of Fr. Joseph Moukarzel as USEK’s New President
Kaslik, Lebanon – The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) is pleased to announce the election of Reverend Father Professor Joseph Moukarzel as its new president.
On May 21, 2025, Most Reverend Father Abbot Hady Mahfouz, superior general of the Lebanese Maronite Order (OLM) and chancellor of the University, officially appointed Fr. Joseph Moukarzel president of USEK, following his election by the OLM General Council with the approval of the University’s Board of Trustees.
Fr. Moukarzel officially took over from his predecessor, Fr. Dr. Talal Hachem, on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. This process was preceded by a transitional period designed to ensure a smooth transfer of responsibilities and institutional continuity, in line with the American-style academic governance model.
Having graduated from USEK (1990–1995) with a BA in Theology, an MA in Philosophy, and an MA in History, Fr. Moukarzel later pursued his doctoral studies at Sorbonne University – Paris IV, where he obtained a PhD in History. A full professor at the Department of History within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, as well as a lecturer at the Pontifical School of Theology and the Department of Sacred Art, he has been an active member of the University Council since 2001. In parallel, Fr. Moukarzel has held several administrative positions at USEK, leading the development of the University’s Library, Archaeological Museum, and the Phoenix Center for Lebanese Studies, among others, thereby spearheading the reinforcement of the vital link between preserving Lebanon’s cultural heritage and fostering academic innovation.
As the author of numerous books and peer-reviewed articles, the new USEK president has written on the history of Lebanon and its religious and cultural diversity, Middle Eastern history, Syriac studies, Christian-Muslim relations, and manuscript heritage. He is a member of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and several international academic societies.
Ahead of the official ceremony that will allow well-wishers to offer their congratulations at the start of the upcoming academic year, President Moukarzel and the new University Council extend their heartfelt thanks to the Lebanese Maronite Order, represented by its superior general and General Council, as well as to the USEK Board of Trustees, community members, alumni, partners, and friends. On this occasion, Fr. Moukarzel addressed his best wishes to his predecessor in his new role.
Anchored in its motto, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you to the whole truth,” USEK now embarks on a new chapter with renewed vision and determination, ever dedicated to serving its students, upholding its mission, and working toward a brighter, more prosperous future for Lebanon.
